So how have you other MO hunters done so far?

I took a forkhorn during rifle season down in Wayne county. That was my only rifle tag.

So far during bow season, I've only seen a small 6-pointer a couple different times. I'm in Franklin county which has the antler restrictions, so I had to watch him walk within 5 steps of me each time. It was neat to just watch him and I never spooked him. I've gotten pictures of a decent 8-pointer in the same area (one pic of him after rifle season) and I'm hoping I'll get a chance at him before the end of the season.

shot a doe early bow season, high hit in the lungs but never recovered. worst feeling in the world. i was watching her and two yearlings come up the trail i set up 20 yrds off of and she got about 30 yrds out and busted me at half draw then runs back down the trail to eighty yrds stops and starts back to me, wow i thought this is my lucky day. i noticed that she was not on the same trail as before but about 5 or so yrds farther in the woods. so i come to full draw and wait for her to get back up to me and when she does i let the arrow fly. "crack" i hear the arrow hit and see it pass through the other side and she takes about 3 leaps and stops. she is standing there wobbling and the young ones take off back down the trail and skirt back around the field where my buddy is setting 80 yrd away. i call on the radio and tell him to check behind him. he turns and arrows a button buck (not seeing the buttons) it goes about 15 yrds and piles up next to the field. the whole time i am watching this i never see my deer fall or even walk away. so we stayed put for an hour and get down to track her. we followed a very heavy blood trail for nearly 100 yrds and then it went to a trickle. we followed the trickle until we reached a private farm fence and then made a call for permission to cross and trail the deer. farmer met us at the fence and let us cross and we followed trickle trickle drip for approximately 500 yrds across two open fields until we reached a field that was several hundred acres with nothing growing. still never retrieved the doe but i have a sneaky feeling the farmer picked it up from the field. my buddy donated the button to me so i had some meat. whew long story. really makes you feel like crap to wound such a magnificant animal and not take it cleanly. sorry to dissapoint anyone but mostly sorry to that doe. then rifle season comes. i shoot a doe. she drops. no tracking involved. then muzzelloader. no deer first weekend. honey dews next saturday. sunday we hunt. make little one man pushes to each other during the morning. i push 8 deer to my partner (1 nice 8 pointer) he pulls the trigger 3 times and remington muzzleloader never fires. bolt is lubbed with bore butter and will not slide fast enough to fire the primer. went home and cleaned bolt. lubed with rem oil. works fine now. i had a nice buck 40 yrds but not a legal shooter in our county. so i see 17 deer in one day and dont even get to take a shot. oh well just have to go back out there except i got the talk from the wife. "you dont care about anything except hunting". "your right dear" was not the correct answer. not allowed to hunt for two weeks. she will simmer down though. I hope.

I haven't gotten that talk. Yet. This year. But I have gotten "the look" unsure.gif which is worse than the talk. My wife seems to think she needs help with the kids on weekends. Like an 8 y/o, 2 y/o, and a 2 month old can be that much trouble. tongue.gif But I'm a good dad, to the detriment of my hunting time. (Kids are only young once, right?) I'm just lucky that I get to bowhunt on my neighbors property. I can hunt for a couple hours in the mornings and be back in time to cook breakfast. If I had to drive to my hunting area, I don't think I'd have been allowed to buy a bow tag this year. And since I shot that little forkhorn opening weekend of rifle season, I 'obviously don't need to hunt anymore' this year. I received "the look" when I said I could still get two deer with my bow. unsure.gif ... The silence was deafening! My camera's have actually smoothed things over a little. My wife thinks the pictures are cool, and I get to "hunt" vicariously through them. Leaving the house for 30 minutes to swap cards and batteries is more acceptable than leaving for half the day. Plus, if it's warm enough, I'll take the two older girls with me to check the cams. Yes. I do have to pack the 2 year old most of the way. But that's good times!

hey guys, I feel your pain. I haven't shot anything this year. I have taken my 10 year old a lot. He got a 6 point youth season and a button opening day of reg. season. 10 years old and he has taken 4 deer. The 8 year old went with me a few times but I wouldn't let him shoot, they were too far. He was really excited though. Both boys pretty much grew up in one of those kid backpacks. I think it helps because they both really love hunting and fishing and just being outside. I think if you wait until they are too old you lose them. Just don't push them too hard. JMHO.

i told her we could spend quality time together in the woods. i would even let her sit in my favorite stand lol. i did take the 3 yr old out with my bow one day. he was very excited but it sure is hard for a little guy walking through the woods. we did see two does at about 80 yrds and closing in. i told him to sit real still and we should get a shoot. he jumps up in the air and yells "DAD I GOTTA GO PEE" i laughed my butt off and the deer just turned and walked slowly away. i did get a great blackmail pic of him using "THE TREE". i will keep this pic for years.

I have a lot of great memories already but I still laugh when I think of the first time I took my son on the trapline. He was about 3 and we checked them with the ATV. Had a live trap for coons by a barn and he saw right off the door was closed on the trap. We looked inside and sure enough, big old boar. I shot him with my .22 and my son looks at me as excited as can be and says,"Oh nice shot Dad."

My son and I made a rabbit trap this weekend and put it out Sunday. I got home last night and he was some kind of excited. His first trap, the first night out and he has a oppossum! Now we have to tan the hide. He wants to make a hood out of it. I don't know where they come up with this stuff. After we skinned the oppossum my younger son decided he wants a rabbit trap too. Good thing I only have 2 kids!
