I've been looking to buy a new preditor rifle over the summer.I'll mainly be hunting coyotes that are somtimes as big as a small deer. So far, I've been aiming towards getting a 22-250 due to its flat shooting and power. What I was wondering was would a 22-250 have enough knock down power to take down a small deer sized coyote? Or should I buy a differnt rifle insted? Any suggestions would great! Thank you very much.

22-250 will kill any size yote with out a problem as long as you do your part.

If you lived nearby, I'd sell you my Remington BDL custom 22-250. I bought it and took it out in the woods twice. I think I put a 6x24 scope on it when new, but I ended up throwin on a 4x12 now. I'd sell it for 500.00 with either scope on it if you were close enough...?

You might want to take a look at the 25-06 as well for an awesome coyote caliber. If and when I buy it will be this caliber as the knock down is incredible.
You can shoot a 95 grain bullet as flat as 22-250 with a 50 grain bullet. The ballistics of the 204 ruger, 22-250 and the 25-06 can all be loaded about the same for flat trajectory but the 25-06 will not wind drift at those 300-500 yard shots like the 22-250 or 204.
Just something to think about for serious varmint hunting and plus it is big enough to use on everything up to sheep with increased bullet weight.

thank you antler man!

I might have to look in to the 25-06! How much damage will it do to a coyote? I'm not keeping the pelt (unless its really nice) but do you get any exit wounds?

What do you guys think of the .243? Its flat shooting and ammo isn't expensive. Its also versitile.

Love it! it's my yote killer of choice AND there isn't a deer roaming SC that it won't kill.

Tominator, I was just curious what type of ammunition is suitable for yotes? Do you get any exit wounds?

I was at the store the other day and I came across a few remington .270's. They were under $300 and the ammo is very cheep. Its trajectory was flat shooting and you can hunt coyotes up to big game with it! Do you guys think its over kill for coyotes?

Not even a shoulder fired rocket launcher is overkill for yotes

If you don't save the pelts it will work.

I have a 223 that I usually use for yotes and ground hogs
Someone mentioned a 25-06 ?
Well thats what my next rifle will be because not only would it be a good gun for yotes its a devestating lil bugger on Whitetails as well!!
So thats something to consider.
But if you want a gun just for yotes then the 204 , 22-250 , 223 would be my personal choices.

Me personally I like the .243 wssm . I am going to get a .223 just for groundhogs and yotes though. I deer hunted this year with my .243 wssm with 95gr bullets and I never had one go more than 20 yards. As far as groundhogs go I was getting them at 250+.

By any chance, do you guys have any opinions on how good for accuracy or quality the Savage Model 111 FCXP3 has?

I have a 111 with the standard barrel in 22 250 that is the most
acurate sweet shootin gun I ever had my hands on. I have killed five
deer in the last two years with it and have yet to have one take a step .

I just saw in the dick's sporting goods ad that they have a Rossi hinge action, Varmint combo, heavy barrel, for $230. It comes in a .223 or a 22-250. Do you guys have any opinions on the rifle or which caliber is better? Thanks

Hey guys, Thanks for all the info and the suggestions! I went the the store and they had a remington 700 in a .243 for $269 and I bought it!!! It looks like a great solid rifle and I'll see how it shoots in a couple weeks. Thanks again!
