I've never found a shed and before now never found a dead deer or the remains of one. Last week my buddy and I went out to go shed hunting in the SC mountains famous for few but good deer. He likes to hunt a particular area and we could not get access to it because of our DNR gating it, so we choose a different area. We walked in, seen our first rub about 50 yds from the road was roughly a large 6 inch tree so we got pretty excited to say the least. Started finding old scrapes and lots more rubs, got even more excited! Half way up the hill found a deer leg bone near an intersection, went further up the trail, nothing more but a fairly fresh rub. Went back down took another trail off that intersection started finding spine and other bones, I looked up an behold this skull and antlers were 20 yds up the trail! I was thrilled! Funny thing is he led the way most of the time until we went back down the trail to the intersection!
Question: This thing still has some tissue on it, not sure what I really need to do to get it off. I've read about boiling them when they're a fresh kill. I put it in peroxide for a few days, it made it pretty white, I thought the tissue might come off pretty easy when I took it out, but it's still pretty connected in spots. What would you recommend?
BTW: from the looks at the jawbone against pics he's pretty worn down in the 6 1/2 yr+ range.
