I just put a new Slugger by H&R on lay away ...........I have heard good things about them I already have a Marlin #512 that shoots 2" groups at 100yds. I am looking to sight the slugger in at 180pluss yds. Maybe even 200yds.is this practical with the new Hornady sst slug? I seen it on Away hunting outdoor's and they were cutting paper at 100 yds with them? Am I asking tomuch here? Thanks Drop

I'm shooting the Winchester Partition Gold sabot's from my 870.
I shoot the 2 3/4" 385 grain at 1900fps, the 3" will get you an extra 100fps. With the 2 3/4" 150 yards is no problem. I haven't shot them out to 200 but I'm sure they would do fine. Farthest I have killed a deer with them was a little over 160 yards and it blew right through and dropped it in it's tracks. They are devastating.
I haven't tried the Hornady sst slug and with the performance I have been getting from the Winchester's I don't think I'll change anything just yet.
Let me know if you do shoot the Hornady's and how they perform.

I think you will have plenty of energy left to kill the deer. The biggest problem will be trajectory. Do you have any idea how much it will drop at 200 yards? Just curious.
