i'll kick off this new forum i guess
what kind of comercial cams are you guys running. i've had bushnell, cuddeback, and a nontypical dc-200 35mm cam. i was pretty happy with the cuddeback and the 35mm. i don't run either one of them anymore.

I have a wildview and am hoping my neighbor will let me use his 35mm thats getting dusty... just needs film.
The wildview is fine, just starts breaking after a while.... mine won't hold batteries in it without use. they drain....

I have stc-wd3 and a i390 made by stealth cam.I also had a stc-wd2,but the external battery hook up at the camera stop working.Sent it back and they sent me a i390,i would have to say that stealth does stand behind their products.

I ran about 20 Cuddeback units last year personaly and sold several hundred of them. The new batter system is not great at all and the attchment with the new units are also horrible. You must use the screw and if you tighten slightly firm, you crack the boddy and loose batter connection...FOREVER
This year I will be running Reconics. But they are very expensive to let the bears chew them up.
Will post some bear pics late June

I am a fairly large dealer and in addition, when the bears chew them up, I can send mine back
I am not very happy with the service Cuddbeack/Non-Typical offers and the ridiculous $449.99 retail receipt or NO warranty is a bunch of bull
But they can be good with persuation and they take a decent picture.
Have anyone here used the Reconics (also was advertised/labeled as Primos last year)? The new camera comes out next week and is significatly less expensive that the other models.

i think the owner of nontypical is over at chasingame.com. i saw him defending himself there last week

.
as far as the primos cam; i've heard it's a really good camera but as usual the price tag shows it. i've never used one myself though. if the new model is a fraction of the cost of the old and it still works good; they should sell a lot of them for sure.

Great post guys!
Other than my homebrews I have owned the nontypical DC 100 and DC 300,
Both are great cams for 35mm cams.
I had a moultrie gamespy 200 that was absolute junk, it got stolen and I was very happy...LOL> Now the thief can put up with my old junk..LOL

that's the way i felt when someone stole my first generation moultrie 35mm and my 50 dollar stealth 35mm. i hope they spent 75 dollars in film and never got any pictures like i did

The new 2007 Moultrie cameras are decent for sure. Quick, reliable, economical in comparison, IR and far better customer service.

overall; i think the commercial market is definatley improving a lot. there's just something about my homebrews.
any of you guys have the 35mm that cam in the nontypical dc-200. it's a 35mm olympus. i have the entire setup that still works except the camera. i wouldn't mind getting it going again.

i think that's the same one i have. is the hand control called an expander or something like that? if you have the dc200 model; it should have an olympus camera in it. my camera quit but the everything else is still working fine. i've been trying to find that same style olympus for a while and there just not out there anymore to find.

I believe I may have the missing link 35MM Olympus. I'll have to check to be sure. Do you have the model number of the cam?

Mine had a Olympus Trip 505. Seems like I had a buddy with a DC-200 that the cam was a little different. Maybe they weren't all the same???

that's it. that's the one right there. does it still work?

I think it works. Here's what happened to the unit. It would kill the camera batteries very quickly (1 or 2 days). I suspected camera issues but the camera batteries last forever (it's been a year sense I last touched it and the batteries will still power it up) when NOT connected to the trail cam. So I really don't know for sure but I don't really need it either. I hate to say that it's 100% as I never have figured out exactly what's going on. This cam is the one that lead me to this websight looking for answers and you know what happens next! It's yours for the price of shipping if you want to try it.

yea, i'll take it. let me know what shipping costs you. i'll pm you my address.
i appreciate it.

I'm of course running homebrew and a couple 2007 Moultrie's. Its to the point where the new moultrie cams appear to be on almost equal level of performance as homebrews. Not to mention I can get them at a discounted price so unfortunately I might be going to mainly moultrie cams and stop building homebrews as its no longer cost efficient.

i'm not sure the store bought ones will last as long as the homebrews but who knows, they may. i agree, some of the store bought cameras quality has improved quit a bit.

I think it all depends on what your goals are. For a high quality picture, almost no store bought unit will compete with some of the skill on here and items bought from WTSF.
If you just want a picture, yes, some of the cheep commercial units do just fine.

I had a stealth wd-2, slow trigger time, poor pic quality ( always blurry looking ), I have a moultrie I40, like it alot, if they would just put some steel into it to make it secure, I would be real happy with it.
I got a few 6-8 homebrews, all with sonys ( P41 & S40 ), got the itch to get a nikon l14 going tho.

I have 4 2007 I-40's and 1 2008 I-40 which quit on me after a week and pretty much backed out of for now since the 2008 models have a slower trigger time of 3+ seconds and too many white outs. I also personally own 6 Scout Guard SG550 which have been working flawless since 07/22. Half on video and half on pics. Thats my favorite $200 range camera this year

Ditto on that, HCO ScoutGuard, the pick of 2008
