Seems like this topic has been discussed but I can't find it. I need to buy a bow for my son. He is 11 and has been shooting for a couple years but he outgrew the other one. I was looking for something he can grow with and hunt with in a couple more years. Any advice?

Trapper,

I have the same situation. My son just turned thirteen and is small framed. Look into the Parker Buckshot. They have a program where you can buy the lower weight limbs and as your son grows they will change the limbs out for about $50.00. Considering what bows cost these days I found this to be a good deal. Package with sight, quiver, wisker biscuit rest and set up was $349.00 at Bass Pro. I compared various bows and found it to be very good unlike some bows that are obviously subpar due to being for youth. Now if I can just get him to use it.

Diamond Archery had the Edge bow package. I sell them everyday for $300 shipped. 18-28.5" draw length adjustments and a great shooting bow.

The Browning Micro Midas is also another great bow with lots of room for growth. I let them fly for similar prices.

I can offer an upgrade package for limbs for $50.00 any day of the week with either bow.

Yankee I wish I had known about you then. I really liked the edge but could not get the deal you are offering. By the way is it offered in left hand now. That was also a consideration.

I nearly always have LH and RH in all configurations in the Diamond Line.

How much can he pull.

My son shots a Parker Buckshot...lots of growth potential...good bow, like it no complaints...

But if I were to do it again..I'd have a serious look at the Edge.
I shot a young ladies Edge about a month ago...SWEEET!
I shoot a Liberty and Diamond makes one h@ll of a bow for the price.

Can you get the Edge bare bow? And at what price if yes?

thanks for the input. all comments are welcome.
Red,
I think he can pull around 30-35lbs but i need to find out for sure. The one he has now is like 23 and he doesn't even know he is pulling it.
redruff
yankee will probably be your better source here but...
I think you can get the Edge in 30, 40 50 lbs.

23 to 30 might be a big jump...but the 30lb might be able to be lowered, see what yankee says....

If you can, take your kid to a shop that has the bows your looking at and have him shoot them. If nothing else take him in and see what he can pull.

Just a rant here....
Bow shopping for kids is the biggest pain in the *** you'll ever love!

I love the fact that my kid shots with me but...

Tough to find a bow he can grow into...
Tough to find add ons in stock for youth
Tough to find help that understands kids needs in archery....
Tough to find a good arrow in stock for youth....

You get the idea...you gotta do it but it can get frustrating!

If you find a pro shop that has very patient techie that will work with your kid....he's good as gold!

That is great TH, give that little man a pat on the back for me will ya!!! I just bumped my little man up to a PSE Nova from a Micro Midas. He's shooting ~38# right now and will probably be in the low 40's by bow season. Hope he gets to 45#, but there's certainly no rush. Like TH said above, accuracy is much more important. I know you said your son was 11 but I don't know how big he is. My son's 10, but he's 5'3" and weighs 120#. The Nova is definitely plently of bow to use well on into his teen years.

Wow, way to start strong..hope he can follow that one up with another this year.

He has big Plans on a Buck this year--Target Buck>>----->LOL

And I'm not trying to steal your thread just showing it doesn't take hi poundage bows to get the job done!
Thanks Tar

The bare bow would be $250.00 to your door.
Sorry for the delay, I am getting married Saturday and have a lot of small things to do between now and then. I will be a little slow in reply.
