i just finished "Hunting Trophy Whitetails In The Real World" written by Don Higgins.

i thought it was a very good book. it covers tactics for hunting trophy class bucks. the knowlege was gained from the author by 30+ years of exsperiance and whitetail observations of penned deer that he rasies at his house.

i would like to thank redruff for sending the book to me. cheers.gif

the author makes it clear theat the tactics were gained and the book is driven more through hunting deer in the midwest were there are more fields than timberland. it's very hard to translate this book into tactics that would help you out in the southeast but i do think there are some of his tactics that will work no matter where you're hunting at.

are there any of you guys that have read it? if so what did you like or dislike about the book??

"The Old Man and the Boy" by Robert Ruark is my favorite book. You won't learn much about whitetail tactics but it has helped me get through life.

I don't have the patience to read anything thicker than a hunting magazine. The only time I can sit still for more than an hour is when I'm 30' up in a tree. bag.gif

I've read a few.

I really enjoyed Chuck Adams Life at Full Draw. Also read one by Brad Hernandon about whitetail hunting that I liked very well. I think it was call Mapping Whitetails. I'm in the process of moving. If I ever see that book again I'll check the title. Also Steve Bartyla has some interesting whitetail books.

I quit reading books after I finished college. bag.gif

Ash reads about two a week so I figure that evens things out.

Maybe if Bill bought me books like "Bowhunting Tactics of the Pros: Strategies for Deer and Big Game (Hardcover) " I just might start reading again......

John Wooters always wrote good stuff, Hunting Trophy Whitetails was awesome. If I recall correctly he wrote for Outdoor Life.I think most of his stuff is probably special order stuff now. Google him.
Nick Adams stories by Hemingway was good stuff when I was younger, probably still good today.
For just plain love the way he put words together I still like Fate is the Hunter by Ernest K.Gann. Told his life story as a pilot from early days. The guy had a way with words that left me laughing. Way too many books to just pick one. How the heck can anyone pick just one???
