I was curious to see how the Virginia hunters felt about the new crossbow usage law that was passed this year in Virginia.

Post your thoughts here:

I think it sucks. I'm not against crossbows, I just think they should have their own season and not be lumped in with the archery season.

At least you can use them there, no crossbows allowed in South Dakota unless your handicapped. I shoot both compound and recurve, but I have always wanted to at least try it with a crossbow.

I don't like the thoughts of inexperienced crossbow hunters trampling through the woods during the most natural deer pattern season. That has always been the draw for me in archery season. The deer are on a natural feeding and bedding routine and not in a rutting state of mind. The challenge of locating trails connecting feeding and bedding areas is why I bowhunt. Wally world in Roanoke has just about sold out of crossbows. We have 4 local Wally worlds and they are selling out all across town. I can't imagine what the woods are going to be like with all thos greenhorns moving about!

I'm sick just talking about it!

SUCKS is a great way to put it.

I wonder how many inexperienced hunters have bought compound bows and will be in the woods for the first time ? unsure.gif

At the recent hunting show people were walking out with them by the tons. I think its going to be crowded in the woods come Oct. 1st. mad.gif

I really don't like the idea but it has it's pro's and con's. For a pro side it does get more people involved in the outdoors but with a cost. The cost and the con would be that the deer pattern's will be messed up in some area's, but if you do your homework in the post and pre season then you might be ok. As far as how do I stand on the issue, I am just glad that I am not lugging one of those things around.

I started deer hunting with a recurve in 1960. Switched to a compound
in the late 70s. Pulled a shoulder cup out in the 90s. In 2004/5
deer season I shot three deer the black birds got two of them.
Feed the hunger got one due to not being able to pull and hold my bow
correctly. I switched to a cross bow this past season and feed the
hunger was able to enjoy three fine fat deer. I was able to contunie
to enjoy a sport I have love.

That is the key. For all of the people that want to be in the outdoors, there is a way. I am glad that there are people that will get outside no matter what. One guy that invited me to hunt with him hurt his arm in Vietnam so he used a crossbow. I was amazed at all of the things that he went thru he still goes in the woods hunting.
