what have you got yours on?

I plan on hunting from a ground blind and as of now i am set at 15 and 20 paces..... not sure how far that is, i will use tape measurer tomorrow....

i have a deer trail that runs right in front of my blind but if they go there i can just stab them with a broadhead tongue.gif

Also, I can shoot well with fingers and a release, but the draw length is too long for a release, and i am thinking that i am not getting max speed and penetration with it.... i can go full draw with fingers, but i am less stable..... sad.gif confused..

One more thing, I promise,

Whats the max distance i can shoot from a blind with a bow?

Just stabin' sounds the best!

The release fingers thing...you about have to shoot from full draw to achieve the best performance in all areas including effenciency and accuracy. Can you adjust your drawn length? If not, I personally would shoot fingers so you're against the back wall of the bow.

I think max distance from a blind is only determined by how far you can comfortably shoot with reasonable accuracy. Most guys say only to shoot as far as you can maintain 3" groups. Others say minute of angle accuracy which would be 1" for every 10 yards. IE, 2" at 20 yards, 3" at 30 and so on. I like 3 or 4" groups to feel decent about taking a shot at a whitetail.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Buckmaster,

All new sights for the most part are fiber optic. all you need for the blind is to add a sight light.

As far as shooting out of a blind, the only limit is how far you can accurately make a shot. You and only you know that after LOTS and LOTS of practice. If you are just starting out I would say it is a bit close to the season to be figuring it all out.

I would adjust the draw length and use a release. All things being equal, you will get more speed with it than fingers.

Go to your local pro shop and ask for help!!

good luck cheers.gif

There are several releases out there that you can adjust to be very short. If you shoot off the string, it would be very similar to shooting with fingers. Obviously shortening your draw length is the ideal solution, especially if you can shoot better with a release.

As far as maximum shooting distance, as regnar said, that is up to you. I agree that a consistent 4" group is required for "ethical" shooting. I am very picky about my equipment, I shoot all the time, with a Mathews Switchback XT, tuned perfectly, with correctly spined arrows. I practice out to 70 yards on an almost daily basis, but I won't shoot at a whitetail beyond 40 yards.

Give us some specs....what is your axle to axle length on your bow.
Finger shooting is a little different ballgame.

But in general,,,,,you want the bow to fit you properly so you can shoot consistently. half the battle to hit bucky is confidence that you can make the shot. When your equipment is setup right and fits you, you've practiced enough to feel "good" about your shooting...the mechanics will just come naturally when bucky steps in front of your blind.

I am completely confident in my abilities..... I am now hitting groups less than 2 inches away.

I will get back to you about axel stuff....

I shoot a release now, its much easier..... and more accurate

The axle to axle is not nearly as important if you are shooting a release.
I switched from fingers to release this year myself.

i have rough spots on my fingers from shooting with them..... biggrin.gif

why cant you come to full draw? I dont get it.

how far can you shoot from a blind? as far as you are able i guess. I shot my elk from a blind at 55 yds this year.

a pin for 15 another for 20? you should only need 1 pin for 20, move the other to 30.
