OK boys, I know this gets discussed a lot but what kind of broadhead do you like and why? I killed my antelope with G5 Montecs and they did the job but when I hit the dirt it bent up the point. I tried to fix it with pliers and did for the most part but if you ding it too bad you lose the whole broadhead. I am thinking of looking at something with replaceable blades like the good old Thunderhead. I also like the cut on contacts like the Muzzy Phantom and a new one Wasp has...ideas?

I used the Montecs last year and had a problem with the tip bending on one that went through a shoulder blade of a deer. This year I am trying the G5 Strikers with replaceable blades and a low profile to help with broadhead flight. No results yet but will let you know. The deer season opens this Sat. They flew well in my testing and they seem to have good cut-on-contact properties.

Magnus's guarantee is great. Lifetime, unconditional, no questions asked replacement policy. I use the Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts and could not be happier. They fly right with my field tips and just pass through every deer I shoot.

If you do not like Montecs, try Trophy Ridge/Rocket Hemmatics.
Cheep and fly great!
I personaly only use mechanical heads with far more than 100 big game kills with Rockets.

I like the Montecs I just am skeptical of how durable they are. I'm not sold on mechanicals...

If I was going to use a fixed head(I would not personaly) I would shoot Trophy Ridge/Rocket Hematics or Montecs.

Ive shot 100g thunderheads for years and havent had a problem yet so i dont plan on changing anytime soon, although itd be neat to see what some of these new mechanical heads do..but i cant get past the thought of something going wrong and missing or worse yet wounding a deer but i know theyve came a long way since they first came out...maybe ill try one next year

thanks BT, I met Bob Foulkrod at Bass Pro this summer and he told me about some testing they did on broadheads and that mechanicals tested pretty poorly. Don't quote me, I will try to find more info out. But I know a lot of guys who are happy. For Thunderheads, do you use the vented blade?

I think Eastman's Bowhunting Journal published some broadhead testing results, I will see if I can track that down.

If you are talking about killing ability, very few people will have a complaint about a quality mechanical head (I use mostly Trophy Ridge/Rocket and sponsored by Grim Reaper

). If you are talking about durability for reuse, thay are not an option with the possible exception of the Tekan II and like your Montec, they chip and bend as well.

Let me add that to me, Braodheads are disposable. Like a bullet, once shot they are spent. If you want durable and reusable, Montec, SteelForce, Magnus, etc.... Just remember that each time you resharpen, they weight less and have a smaller cutting diameter even if minute. Always resharpen all of your heads at the same time.

here are the ones i use.
Click to view attachmenti think thunderhead came out with a new broadhead this year but im not 100% sure. i like them and they fly good. cutting dia. is not nearly as big as the mechanical heads but as long as you have good shot placement, i dont think it matters.

I'm gonna try my luck with the Kill Zone 100 grain 3 blade mechanicals this year....
I'll let you know how they do...
It says they are supposed to fly like a field point and have a 1 1/4 inch cutting diameter. Seems pretty good.
They look pretty strong too, i just hope that i don't hit the shoulder blade and bust the tip off

Well I just returned from a 5 day guided bowhunt for elk in New Mexico. No luck...the elk were bugling but they weren't rutted up and coming in to calls. We had 3 shooters and only one guy got a shot but hit oak brush. Will have to wait til next year to see what kind of broadhead I want. In the meantime, I have a camera on my elk spot that I never visited this year...I bet the batteries are dead, the cards full and hopefully no one used it for target practice.
