I have a Burris scope that I mounted on my 300 win mag and had it bore sighted. I took it out and shot it today and it was about a foot or more high. I had to click it about 50 times or so to bring the bullet down. Can boresighting be that far off? I know it is not exact but holy cow. Scope problem?

Bore sighting is really not that accurate Lance. It's just to get you hitting the paper, I'm sure your scope is fine.

Yah I know, I was just really surprised that it was THAT far off...at 20 yards I was a couple inches high and right but at 80 I wasn't hitting anything until I put a huge piece of paper up. I finally got it in but to adjust it that much gave me cause for concern...The 300 Savage is on and ready to kiss a monster muley in 2 weeks!

Good luck with that

I'm heading back out in a little bit to find my whitetail. Nothing but little ones this morning. Need to find me a keeper!

I have boresighted some that were dead on and others that were way off. As long as you got it sighted in don't worry. You do have a lot of clicks when you are at close range. it takes 4 times as many clicks to move an inch at 25 yards than it does to move an inch at 100 yards.

I talked to a buddy that said I should have zeroed the gun at 20 yards before moving out, no matter I was off the paper, DUH!

What Trophy said... I have two different bore sighting rigs... One is a laser and the other one is a Leupold.. Both rigs give you a different bore sight. I can't for the life of me remember which is closer though.

lots of things can be going on. if you need that much adjustment its better to move the rear base to get it close. You should ALWAYS start at 25 yrds and be about 2" LOW (thats the distance of the scope X hair over the bore) then you wil be close at 100.
I'd re calibrate my scope (turn the knob all the way one direction, then all the way the other counting the clicks. Then turn it back 1/2 way) Windage and Elev. then start over at 25 yds.
Remember if your scope has 1/4" at 100 yds (4 clicks to the inch) at 25 yds it will be 16 clicks to the inch.
