Check this site out. Gives a decent look at how to still hunt. Also, take food, water and first aid kit if you go off on this adventure. Like the boy scout motto says, "be prepared".

Wear silent clothing and boots with a smaller surface area. Be as scent free as possible. Walk very slowly and cautiously and take only a handful of steps to the next tree or bush, so that you are silhouetted. Pause motionless, except to look around, rotating your head slowly. Listen and look carefully for a few minutes before you move again. It can take an hour to go one or two hundred yards. I see more deer doing this than sitting in a stand. Last buck I shot was while still-hunting.

I like those felt bottoms you put on your shoes. Cuts down TONS of noise under your feet.

my terminology is way different. i've always called stand hunting "still hunting" and what you guys call still hunting "stalking", then you have "dog hunting". bag.gif

I don't know why they call it still hunting lug but that is what the hunter education books say. The difference between still hunting and stalking is when you are stalking you are following tracks or can see the animal. With still hunting you do not know where or even if the animal is in the area.
