Hello, I am looking to get started in doing some of my own taxidermy work.(Whitetail shoulder mounts, Turkey) I am looking for advice on what video's would be the best to get me going. I need something that will take me from the very begining, skinning, fleshing right on through all of the procedures. So if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks, T

I know there are tons of video's out there. I started out with Salli Dahmes (WASCO). That was old school but I did not know the difference. A very good one I cam across a few years back is Dan Rinehart's School of Taxidermy video. Goto Learntaxidermy.com or 608-884-3047.. He does a few things different than I do. I tuck the eye lids, he glues them since he is using pre-set eyes. I put the eyes in myself. The video you want to inquire on is (Mountaining A Whitetail Deer). Any question shoot me an email. ndawoods25@aol.com Eddie

Thanks Eddie, I think both of the video's that you mentioned are exactly what I am looking for. I will order both and take from there, hopefully I will be able to get started with mounting my own trophys. I have always wanted to. I have a deer that I got 2 years ago that has been in the freezer in a plastic bag. Do you think after 2 years the cape will still be in ok condition? It is a smaller 7 point that would be perfect to start with. The season is not over yet, so maybe I can get another. Thanks again for your help.

Well, after 2 years in the freezer you will probably run into freezer burn and the ears may be hard to split. You will have to rehydrate ears with a syringe to seperate the cartilage.
