Deer Pins Available to Successful Hunters
DNR Direct to make process of receiving pins simpler
Springfield—Deer hunters will find new, more efficient measures in place this fall as they report successful harvest. As in past years, successful hunters will receive a deer pin free of charge.
“Receiving the deer pin is an important part of hunting season in Illinois,” said IDNR Director Joel Brunsvold. “As we have modernized the reporting system, we have taken measures to make sure that rite of hunting continues.”
Successful deer hunters interested in obtaining a 2005-06 deer pin will be able to submit an application online and deer pins will be mailed to them. The online deer pin application will be available here.
Deer hunters are reminded that harvest-reporting requirements in Illinois have changed effective with the 2005-06 season. Successful hunters, beginning this fall, must register their harvest by 10 p.m. on the same calendar day the deer is or are taken by calling a toll-free telephone check-in system at 1-866-ILCHECK or by accessing the online check-in system at
http://dnr.state.il.us/vcheck. Hunters will be provided with a confirmation number to verify that they checked in their harvest. This number must be written by the hunter onto the temporary harvest tag (leg tag). The deer must remain whole (or field dressed) until it has been checked in through the new check-in system.
The changes are part of the implementation of DNR Direct, Illinois’ new automated license, permit and registration system.
