I am looking for a good scope that won't break the bank. I have eliminated all of the 70.00-100.00 scopes such as Tasco etc... but don't want to pay more than 250.00. I am using it for Deer hunting and would rarely get a 150 yd. shot where I live, but I do not want to rule out going out west to an elk hunt with ranges of 300 yds either. I want it water and fog proof as well as shockproof (or as close to it as possible) any ideas???

I have used Leupold for years and have never had a bad one. I got my son one of the new Rifleman series last year and so far it has been flawless. I believe it was around $180 but I am not sure.

I've got several various Leupold scopes VII and VIII The VII are in the 200.00 range and I've had very good luck with them VII 3-9 will last you a life time.
Bushnell 3200 series gets alot of compliments and my step-father put a Burris 3-9 on last year that was around 200.00 that's very clear and looks to be well made.
Put some flip-up scope covers on both ends and it'll help keep your lenses clear in alot of conditions. After your used to them, you'll not even realize you've flipped them up when you put your gun up.

I have a 30-06 Remington 700. I have a Bushenell 3200 Elite 5x15x50 on top. Being adjustable I can take a close shot or the long shot. Im knocking caps off of 2 liter bottles with it at 200 yards, waterproof with rain guard, and I have not had a problem with shock. I have an Elite 4x12x40 on my Tompson Center Omega muzzleloader and a matching Elite on my Browning slug gun. Do an internet search on the Elite 3200. I have gotten GREAT prices on the all. 4x12x40's were around $229. 5x15x50 was about $279

For the price, I don't think you can even come close to the Burris Fullfield II. It has better light passing quality than comparable Leupolds and Nikons of similar price -- actually better than the higher priced Leupold VXIIIs and Nikon Monarchs -- and it has steel on steel adjustments. I don't believe the Leupolds or the Nikons offer this in that price range.
I have one in 3-9 X 40 and absolutely love it. You can pick them up for about $200, and quite often can get a set of binoculars, a Garmin Etrex GPS, or a compact spotting scope thrown it on a promotional deal.
