from what i've always been told; walk deer trails and look at field edges and look at creek crossings. i've done all that and i've only found sheds when i wasn't looking for them. you just walk up on them when your not exspecting it

You're about to start an addicting hobby!
First start scouting around to find some wintering herd of deer. Locate a good food source, and hit these areas early in the season.....like now.....up until the snow starts to melt (this is if you have to deal with snow).
Once the snow has melted concentrate more on the bedding areas and trails to and from bed to feed. Get a good set of binos and walk slow....scan often and check out anything....and I mean anything that looks out of place.
Good luck!
