I am considering getting the ST Magnums for th 08 season. I have read a couple reviews on Cabelas (can't put too much stock in those) but a couple guys complained of hissing noises in flight and some blades busting off. Now the hissing could be the blades or the fletching and I can't see the blades busting apart. What do you users think? Also, is there any conflict between 4 bladed broadheads and 3 fletchings on the arrow?

I used slick tricks for the first time this past season. I will continue to use them for a long time. I killed 6 deer with them last year, and the longest bloodtrail was just over 100 yards.

I used the 125 grain magnums, and will admit they do whistle a little bit in flight, but they are super accurate. As long as they are put together correctly and tightened down hard on the arrow, I don't see how the blades can possibly come apart.

I have my arrows fletched with 3 blazer vanes, and the slick tricks grouped exactly the same as my field points out to 50 yards. I never shot them any further than that.

I had very good luck with them, and will not hestiate to use them at all in the future.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Thanks WBH, I am really torn on what to get. I see the STs have a thicker blade than muzzy but the tip is not replaceable so if you shoot one into the rocks you basically ruined the whole head. I was using G5 Montecs but when you miss or get a pass through you just wasted some dough. I see ST is coming out with a new broadhead in June that looks cool. I am intrigued by them and may give them a shot. Have you gotten any pass throughs that have ruined the tip?

Lance,

I blasted this ST mag into a cinder block and it held up pretty good. They are pretty tough boradheads. I didn't notice any hissing with the heads I practiced with.

Steve were you just testing this? I am amazed at how well it worked. I think you would tell me STs are the way to go...any problem with number of fletching?
trophy5503
Yep I was just messing around to see how tough they were.

Number of fletchings is not an issue. I am using the Rage 2 blade heads now, so I have a few new ST 100's 1-1/8" here. PM me your addy and I'll send them to you so you can try them out.

Thanks Steve, that is really nice of you to do.

I like mine. Only have an experience of one. 100 grain 1 1/8 in went full thru an 8 point cutting ribs on both sides. Used an Easton xx78 at 55 lbs.
I went with the product after looking for my first broad heads quite a bit. The thing that got me to try them was the reports of "same as target point impact". Sure enough I loaded up one and took three shots at my BLOCK target. Three holes all in the circle from 15 yds out to 30. I did not plan on taking a shot farther than 25 for my first deer.
He walked in at 17 and was done after a 45 yd run thru the brush. I could hear him pile up after he hung an antler.
Hope the cayote's give me a chance for some practice the rest of the year. I believe the solid chisel point is a good way to keep it going thru the tough stuff like bone. Blades are sharp and the blood trail was very easy to follow.
For around 25 bucks for three I cant see getting to upset if I kill a good animal and have to replace a head. This arrow is going on the antlers of the European mount I am making.

xxkilla uses the slick tricks. he emailed me some pics of a blood trail from this year but i can't find the pics. it was a whole lot better than what i see with these 3 blade thunderheads. i'm sure he'll see this and post the pics so for ya.

he also shoots 3 vanes and has no issues, that i know about anyway

I think the best feature of a S/T is the accuracy, they fly straight.
I have not had any hissing issues.
3 vane not an issue with 5", 4", or 2.5"
Hunted with them on Aluminum and carbon arrows.
I've killed 25 deer with them and never had a blade/head break
or fail.
About the only damage I have done to one on a deer shot is ripple
one of the razor edges on hard bone impacts.
I don't think they are anything magical about them, but for me they are
the total package for what I need in a hunting B/H
Here is the top five things I need in a hunting broadhead in order of importance.

* accurate
* razor sharp
* tough
* replaceable blades
* affordable

I attached a few pics of the damage inflicted by the S/T heads

This is the front leg bone of a young buck, entrance side, and was a complete pass-thur
after breaking the leg bone.
