i shoot a compound bow and its draw weight is set at 45 pounds. i was wondering if this is enough to kill a deer.

That is plenty to take a deer. I've read an article on a grandma that took a moose and a musk ox wth a 50lb bow. Its all about shot placement and make sure you have a nice sharp broadhead. ;) Good luck this season. The legal draw weight here in MN is 30lbs to take a deer. Not that I would recommend 30, but 40 lbs is just fine.

My son put a GT 10" out the other side of this doe with a 36lb bow at 21" draw -- Like MN said its all @ shot placement PS he used a 2 blade Magnus stinger 100g
