Hey guys, just tried my first fletching project with the bitz. It says that when the flat side is us you are doing the cock feather, that didn't seem like it to me. Here is a picture of the knob with the flat side up and another shot of the slot inside the receiver:

This next photo is the helical setting, the bottom is lined up and the top is slightly to the right:

Lastly is the finished product and as you can see, the nock is not in alignment, I have to turn it to line up with the cock feather:

Is that the way it is supposed to be? By saying "with the flat side up this indicates the cock feather", is that more for planning what color of vane to use with the knowledge that you will have to turn the nock?

Oh, how do my vanes look in relation to the nock, too far forward or back? Thanks!

The nock receiver is for the standard cock vane out. It is the old standard way to fletch arrows. Bitz has a different nock receiver that can be purchased called the TM receiver that will position the nock correctly for TM style rests that will have the cock vane either down or up. Not really needed though as you found out just turn the nock once done fletching.

Thanks epox, after I think of it I get what you're saying. It would be correct if I had the old style rest that had the cock vane out instead of up. I made a mark on the body of the tool so I can line up my arrow wrap so I can get them to look the same way. I looked at Bitz's site, pretty poor site, I don't even see anything that refers to TM but did see a short mention in the directions. How do you change that I wonder?

Lance , Epox is correct. Just fletch and turn the nock. If you were using glued in nocks it would be a different story. Got my Bitzt yesterday, waitng on wraps so I can try it out. Your finished product looks good.

Thanks Tom, guess I am a perfectionist so I want to be sure all the vanes line up with the arrow crest. I also drilled a couple holes in the bottom of the bitz so I can screw it down to the work bench. Any opinions on the placement of my vanes? It is about 1" from the nock/end of the shaft.

You should be fine at 1". Mine are about 3/4". Main thing to worry about is getting them too far back if you have a short axle to axle as the string angle comes in to play with the vane clearance.
