Eastky Bowhunter
This is my 3rd year running a Food Plot Thread. Heres a recap of the prior 2 years. 2006 was a great year weather wise and the plot done well. 2007 was a disaster with the drought and bad seed that I got. However 2 deer were harvested in the plot so things were not too bad. I have high hopes for 2008.

This year I planted Big Fellow Roundup Ready Forge Soybeans from eagleseed.com. I had planned on doing this plot over the course of a week but everything came together and I was able to get it done in 3 hrs from start to finish. Mother nature should do here part on Saturday. Heres the forecast from my area.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers before 7am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7am and 11am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11am and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

The rig.

It will be fun to follow EKB. Looks like Mother Nature is cooperating already. It will be a few weeks yet before I plant. Last chance for frost date is around June 1st by me.

I planted 50lb/Acre broadcast and found that due to their really good germination rate, that I planted a little too thickly. BTW, I planted Eagle Seed's Game Keeper RR beans.

Same here. About 50lbs per acre. Seems thick on the upper end and a little thin on the lower end.

That is a good looking field. I'm very impressed with how well the plot turned out with the ATV style disk. Well done!

The disc does well since this is the 3rd year in a row it has been worked. The first year was hard to get it worked up real good. I am going to spray it next week. The weeds are getting pretty thick. I will post some updateed growth pics the first week of July.
Eastky Bowhunter
I went over and sprayed the beans today. The deer are hitting them pretty hard. Heres some pics.

TT,

I planted on May 2nd. The trail cam pics I posted were took June 14th and 20th. I will take some updated plot pics after the weeds die out in week or so.

The plot is doing great. The deer are hitting it real hard. The beans are able to keep up. I sprayed with roundup about 3 weeks ago. I need to go back and spot spray where I missed. I was over there yesterday and the beans are over knee high and are starting to vine. The leaves are the size of my hand. I will be back over there Wednesday and I will take some better pictures. Heres a video slip of some does taking advantage of the plot.

I went back over after work this morning and spot sprayed the areas I missed last time. And I finally got around to getting some good pics to show the progress.

Signs of use by the deer.

Check out the size of the leaves.

Here is some more updated pics. I mowed the area I plan on planting a mix of WW, Oats and Winter Peas later this month. I am really impressed with these Forage Soybeans from eagle seed. They are anywhere from waist to chest high. They are also starting to bloom. I am gonna top sow WW over top of the beans once the leaves start to yellow and fall off. Heres various pictures of the plot and some shots from my tree stand.

they sure do look good. how much land do you have total and how much of that is plots? if you don't mind me asking of course
Eastky Bowhunter
Around 100 acres total. 95% wooded.

I have maybe 1 1/2 acres in plots. The rest is almost too steep to use. censored.gif
Dead Deer Walking
I'll be over in a couple days to hang a few stands coolsmiley.gif

Went over to the farm today to plant my fall food plot. I am short on room so I planted the old road bed that runs up along my soybean plot. I planted it in WW/Oats/Winter Peas. Its a little early but we were forecasted to get a lot of rain over the next few days as the leftovers from Hurricane Fay moves through the area. And its raining as I type this post. This is the first rain we have had in over 4 weeks or so. Also archery season opens Sept 6th and I wanted the area around the bean plot to be calm so the deer movement would not be affected. I am planning on hunting the plot the opening weekend.

Heres some pics of the newly planted area. Which also show the growth of the soybeans.

Terrific_tom
Plots look great EKB. coolsmiley.gif The newly seeded areas should be a big draw for that Big Buck. You could be the 1st one on our team to score.
