I connected on a nice gobbler last Sunday. I shot him at about 15 yards with my Switchback XT. He made it about 6 feet before doing the death flap. I knew he was a mature tom when he came running towards my jake/hen decoy setup, and boy was I right. He ended up tipping the scales at 27 lbs. 3 oz., had 1 3/8 spurs on both sides, and a 10 7/8 beard. Needless to say, I was thrilled!
According to NWTF, it is the highest scoring typical bird with a bow in the state of Illinois. I figure he's a once in a lifetime bird, so I'm getting him mounted. I chose a gobbling out of a strut pose, and can't wait until I get it back!
Here's a pic of me and the bird, and an example of the pose I went with.
