Tiny little cams, incredible battery life, not weather proof.

Just curious, seems like one commercial company is pegging some of the reasons why I homebrew.

Not weather proof ?

Thats asinine.

Why would you spend $ on a trail camera and put it out in the elements and its not weather proof ?

I was thinking the same thing sil. Chasingame.com had the review, had to build some friggin thing out of pvc to keep it dry.

Thought I'd chime in. I became a dealer for these as soon as I saw the review on chasing game. They seem to have solved alot of the problems that were present with other mass produced cameras. I couldn't wait to get mine out and try it. Right after I ordered the first ones, the remarks about the lack of being "weather proof" popped up on the net. I was shocked and very disapointed. Then I started reading some personal reviews and found lots of people that had zero problems with their cameras in the weather. I put mine out and had it out in some very heavy rains with zero problems. My buddy and I have sold about 30 units an have only had only 2 complaints to date. 1 was for batter life, there's now a firmware upgrade to fix that, and the guy is very happy now. the second one just came today. A guy got his cam and also bought a kingston card from me. Everything worked fine with the kingston, but a sandisk card wouldn't work. I haven't had a chance to contact HCO about it yet. Not bad if you ask me. Alot of those cams we've sold have been in some torrential rails. Mine just survived 2 inches over night. It's my opinion that the company was being over zealous when printing their manuals. No cameras are "water proof", just weather resistant. Everything I've seen so far says the scoutguards are too. Chasingame did a test where they ran a garden hose over the units to test them as to their wetather resistance and they had zero problems as well. Just thought I would put in my 2 cents.

The term not being weather proof means that this cam is not meant to be submerge in water. No camera is. However this cam can hold to the weather. None of my customers have ever had an issue with water. In fact, I have had my cams out in torrential rains including Tropical Storm Fay coming out high and dry biggrin.gif

Another good point is the one year warranty. You are covered. However, make sure you buy from an authorized dealer or your warranty will be void. The only authorized distributor in the US is HCO(huntingcamonline.com) so to make sure, all you have to do is go to their site to verify the dealer here: http://www.huntingcamonline.com/dealerlist.html

Hope this helps and I gotta say, this is the cam for 2008 in this price range cool.gif

Not to sound unwelcoming to a new member of RDHC, is the only reason you joined Real Deal to try and sell a commercial trail camera ?

I see you have a banner.

Hi Silbowhunter,
This is not the only reason why I joined. A friend of mine, which is a member here, asked me to check out this forum as I am a member in a few other forums. Yes, I am a dealer for this camera but, I am also an enthusiast. I own several cams and enjoy talking about them as well as answering questions. Yes, I do have a banner here which I thought would be appropriate since the money spent on that benefits this site.

Hope to make some new friends here and hopefully be of some help.
