This is really interesting. I wanna do stuff like this maybe later in life, well in this type of field.... tagging and monitoring patterns of different animals.
Heres a few pics, we dont have any of the mist net itself but i will find a picture of one and post it here.

I'm sure Captiveone knows all about this.

After catching the birds, we put them in cloth bags and carried them back to the banding station to record their age, sex, species, and swab to check for disease. They were then banded on their right foot, and released back unharmed.

Heres a picture of a mist net

The way the mist net works is it is stretched across an area where birds are likely to fly close to the ground... ours were setup in a clearing between 2 patches of shrub pines. The birds then fly in and get entangled in the net, and we go get them out.
We caugght a variety of birds from the american robin to the cat bird, also some cardinals and sparrows.
Pics of birds and a pic showing the banding.
This bird was a juevenile cardinal, sex was unknown because it is very difficult to tell the sex at such a young age.

Nice post Travis.. coolsmiley.gif How did you get involved in this project? Looks like something most folks should get involved with. It really teaches you a lot.

Like some of the others said here..keep the studies up in school, stay involved in projects like this, and you just might find yourself doing things like this in the future and......having someone pay you to do it..I can speak from experience..it is one heck of a way to spend a career. cheers.gif

Hey Cap. I went to a Forestry and Enviromental Science camp at NC State. Its really hard to get into and only like 50 kids got in. We did all sorts of stuff but this was my favorite, and the only thing that had to do with animals haha.

I have narrowed down what i think i want to do, and i think i want to be involved in the wildlife and fisheries field. Forestry and watersheds dont interest me... haha
