Well, Things ain't quite working out like they were supposed to. My electric fence isn't working! I found two branches had fallen on it in two places and drained my battery down. Here are the deer inside eating away!

I am hoping you are joking about trying to keep the deer out with that electric fence...they can jump a lot higher than what that fence is...

I am not joking! Brian has had great success with this setup. It is a two stage fence three feet apart. He has pictures to prove that it keeps them out. Only wish I had the proof. I put this cam inside so I would know it was working.
I will recharge my battery and try again. Any help is greatly appreciated. They eat the beans and peas down way to fast if they can get to them. censored.gif

Plan B?

Well, My first attempt at keeping the deer off my plot was not going good! The deer walked through the electric fence like it wasn't even there to get at the peas and beans. On a friends advice, I tied some flagging to the fence. And I mixed one dozen eggs with a gallon of water in my sprayer and sprayed the poly tape all the way around my plot. This is supposed to be the same as Plot Saver spray. We'll See! If this doesn't work, I'll be looking for 7 foot fence material!

Yikes that sounds like a lot of work to keep them out. When do you plant?

I'm going to replant the first weekend in September. rolleyes.gif

Sounds like you need to thin out the deer or make bigger plots.

I guess I am just lucky to have a low deer density. My beans are growing like kudzu vine.

Brad from www.eagleseed.com sent me this in an email. This stuff may be an option for you.

"I failed to mention that we are testing a few products to help with smaller plot sizes and soybeans. One product is called Browse-Ban, but it has to be applied every 7 days. I think it is much more enjoyable to watch them actually use a summer food plot from planting through maturity, not just a particular time of the season. Very beneficial to a deer's nutritional requirements. "

Here's another trick taught to me by an old man. He used this technique to keep deer out of his garden. Go down to your local barber shop on a hot afternoon late after they have cut a lot of sweaty hair. Bag it up and put it out in stockings around the fence about every ten feet or so. Human scent from the sweaty hair will keep them out for a while.
