Just wondering what kinds of bullets an powder you guys are using? looking for a good starting point to work up a load.....

I have been shooting my Omega now for a couple 3 seasons. Shot the powerbelt 245 gr.(green tail section) and got pretty good results. 2-3" groups at 100yds. These are not tight fitting bullets so I found that a freshly cleaned barrel was not good. After a shot or two I got the best results. So, a dirty barrel was the ticket.

Last season at the advise of a muzzleloading fanatic I switched over to the T/C Shockwave 250 gr. The T/C was designed around a "magnum load" so 3 50 gr. pellets of Pyrodex was what they had in mind. There will be some unburned powder with this load and it will kick a bit but the accuracy with these Shockwave bullets is unbelievable. 1.5" groups consistently at 100 yds. Haven't tried the Triple 7 pellets yet. These bullets with sabot combo are VERY tight so a clean but not damp barrel is the ticket. I wet swab and then dry swab after eery shot. A dirty barrel makes it very difficult to load a new bullet. A round ended bullet starter is the ticket here. Start the bullet with it and then with the ramrod in place use the bullet starter round end push and seat the load the last few inches. Saves on the palm of your hand. But, this tightness of the sabot is why it is so accurate.

The Hornady SST is the same bullet but a different sabot. Still tight but a little easier to load. Same performance I have heard but haven't tried it out.

Well that is my 2cents worth. Works for me.

Best I found in the Omega is the 250 Shockwaves too. I bought some Hornady SST also since they were a bit cheaper and they shot the same. I get 1 to 1.5" groups at 100yds with 100 grains of triple seven. They are a real pain to load unless unless you run a wet patch between each shot. After breaking 2 of the T/C little screw in handles I bought a XS Sights rod that had a built in flip out handle that works great.

The Omega kicks my butt with 150grs...I tried it but it the scope kept cracking my head. I changed the recoil pad over to a Limb Savers...I was thinking about adding some sort of weight to the hollow inside of the butt of the stock...anyone else tried this?

dbates: Thanks for telling us about that XS Sights power rod with the swivel T end. I googled it and found it at the following location:

XS Blackpowder Accessories ( XS PowerRod )

I think I will be buying one of these for my Omega.

I really like it, it made reloading after shooting in a stand much easier..the first deer I shot with the Omega last year I had to climb out the stand to reload the d@mn thing with the factory rod. But like you said tight is good with those shockwaves for accuracy...I tried some powerbelts and they loaded easy but shot like crap in mine. But buddies with Encore's had the exact same experience.

I have a black composite stainless barrel T/C Omega. I shoot 100 gr ( 2 pellets) of triple Seven. Winchester #209 primer, and 240 grain T/C XTP Mag Sabots. 85 yards dead center 1" high. I have a Bushnell 3200 Elite 4x12x40 glass on top. I like to see the hair part as the bullet impacts.
