The deer are just hammering the soybeans. Normally the deer have shifted to my Rye, Oats, Winter Wheat and Austrian Winter Pea Mix but this year they just keep coming back to the soybeans. About a month ago a low spot in the beans got hit by frost and the leaves in that area turned brown and since that the whole plot got hit by a light frost. The low area since the frost has now greened back up with new growth from the stems and the rest of the plot has bounced back from the light frost. This stuff is unbelievable. The beans just started flowering. If the weather holds out maybe I will get pods this year.

Looks great Tom. When did you plant this stuff. I'm looking for something different to put in my clover field next year. Have enough clover in other spots and would like to try something different. I know the last time I huunted down in Iowa they were still in the beans in December, with snow on the ground.

I planted this on June 1st. It lasted until this past Thursday when we had a good freeze 24 degrees. The mix I planted was a very slow maturity variety and did not get beans on it [ I knew this when I planted them ]. Next year Brad from Eagle Seed said they will have an early maturing seed in the mix as to give some bean production for late fall and winter feeding but still have the other beans to give a lot of forage for the summer and early fall for us guys that live up North.
