I was hunting with my nieghbor this morning, and at 8 oclock i gave him a call and told him i wasnt seeing anything, and that we need to slip down into the woods and stalk around... so he comes to my stand and I climb down and we slip off down the hill.
We get into the field below my stand, and find a scrape, then we enter the woods again and I direct hm to a spot where i know bucks are using, and find 3 nice sized rubs. About the time I showed him the 3rd one he motions for me to come over, so i slip over beside him and we look down in the bottom and there is a buck. He is 30 yards from us, we are on top of a cliff, he is at the bottom about an 8 foot drop. He asks me how big it is and i tell him its not really big but a decent buck, so he raises his bow, draws and shoots. The buck runs off.
We wait 5 minutes or so and i slide down the bank to see if his arrow is there.... its not, so im thinking he hit him. We wait about 20 more minutes and start looking for blood.... Can't find a drop... We split up and start combing the area, found no blood, or the arrow.
We searched for about an hour and a half and backed out, never found any sign he had been hit and never found the arrow either.... Ghost deer?!
What do u think happpened? My nieghbor says he swore he saw the arrow sticking behind the bucks shoulder, but I couldnt see it from my angle.... Could the steep angle of the shot mean he wont leave a good bloodtrail due to it not being a pass thru?
