Had this little spike come out at around 50 yards. Grunted at him to see what he would do. He took off across the field and hit the brush on the edge. I heard him in there, walking and browsing. Gave him a bleat with the can call to see how he'd react. He grunted a couple times, came out back to about 40 yards from me and looked around for a bit, then put his head down and began munching on alfalfa. I stood up and moved around a little to see if he could see or hear me. He finally heard a boot squeak and trotted off the field. Lasted about 20 minutes, fun to watch.

Got out this morning again, 32 degrees and wind gusts up to 60 mph, even snowed a little. At about 7am I used the can call, within 30 seconds I saw a deer coming out of the long, golden swamp grass and through the small row of balsams. Got ready, ended up being a little fork. He came slowly and gave me many shot opportunities, he ended up directly beneath me, a couple feet away from my ladder. He hung around for about 5 minutes. More fun with the little guys. Where are the big boys? unsure.gif

Cruising for chicks coolsmiley.gif Stay on that food source and sooner or later they'll show.

I might go in the morning if the winds calm down a little. But I'll be out for sure tomorrow evening and all day Monday and Tuesday. This cold weather is perfect timing, I gotta believe there is going to be a lot of deer movement in the next few days. We saw a lot of deer crossing roads last night and early this morning. One little buck got smeared on 33.

I also got out this morning. When firearms open I switch from hunting federal land for bucks to go hunt my little tract of land for does. Wearing my orange and hunting with a bow?? In fact it is the first time this I drew back all year on a live deer. I let a 35yrd shot fly when about 30 yrds I herd my arrow hit a branch, that sucks... what is worse is what I found when I went looking for my arrow.
I broke my carbon arrow even the nock and I can not find the rest, I lost my broad head. censored.gif

Steve hit it on the head. The does are on the food sources and the bucks are going to be close by. Good luck in the morning.

Yup, staying put. Got a few big buck pictures moving in daylight. It was more of a rhetorical statement than a real question? biggrin.gif

Took the morning off, been hunting pretty hot and heavy and had company over for dinner. Sat last night in the torrential winds and didn't see anything. Tonight should be good too, cold and calm. Good luck to you too Tom.

I'm kinda kicking myself for not heading up to Northern, MN for rifle season this year.

Any reports of any monster bucks being taken up there?
