As a young hunter you might not understand what I am saying but I think you are trying too hard.
If you are going out fixated on killing a deer you are setting yourself up for disappointment and frustration. I believe deer can sense a predator's thoughts. If you are the predator, the deer will know it. If you are like the rabbits, you are not a threat. You are just minding your own business.
Go out for a walk, enjoy the cool air, listen to the squirrels, or migrating birds. Relax.
Eventually, at some point while you are relaxed and enjoying your time in the field, a deer will appear. Take a few deep breaths, settle the sights...
Killing a deer isn't going to make you a better person. It isn't a competition with your buddy.
I go out hunting as much as I can and to be completely honest, I enjoy myself more when I don't shoot something. I can think back and remember the frost on the grass, or the fox I squeaked to a few feet away, then the look in his eye when he knew he could be in trouble.
When I shoot something, I know I will be getting dirty and I will lose a whole evening processing it, and I will need to wash the blood out of my truck and, and, and...
Next time you go out, don't go "hunting". Just go for a walk and carry your gun. Take time to enjoy yourself and appreciate nature. Stop and sit on a stump or lean against a tree.
It will happen.
That my friend is what hunting really is. I enjoy watching them just as much if not more than shooting them. Killing not even at the top of the list why most people hunt, or at least on this forum. Its the peace and enjoying all mother nature has to offer. I dont know how old you are but scouting, persistence, and patience are the 3 key ingredients. The more time you spend in the woods the closer you are to connecting. Good luck and have fun.
