Full Version: New Bow for Spring '09?.....help

I'm shooting an older Hoyt and want to buy something new this spring. This past summer I got to shoot the Mathews DXT and man was that thing sweet. I thought about getting it then. The archery store suggested to wait for the '09 models to come out and then make a decision. I liked it for its size, weight, and speed(comparing it to my older Hoyt of course).
Since then I've been searching around. I have not looked at the new mathews, or Bowtech yet, but did see a couple of new martins that seemed pretty nice.
I want something that is small(short), lightweight, and fast.
Any suggestions, comments, favorites, or any other help would be greatly appreciated! Especially on that mathews DXT!

My advice would be to try shooting as many bows as you can. Then pick the bow that feels the best. Every one has their favorite and you will get a lot of different suggestions. I am partial to Bowtech.

I agree with Tom on this one. Shoot as many bows as you can and get the one that "feels" best to you. Don't let someone talk you into a bow. It is far more important to have a bow that you can shoot comfortably and accurately. Too many people shell out hard earned cash for a bow and then 3 months later they curse the bow because they never can gain the accuracy they want. Also don't over poundage yourself. Many many deer have fallen to a low poundage bow with sharp broadheads. Personally I shot a Mathews Drenalin and love it. I had a Q2 that I bought but never could get comfortable with it after shooting my old PSE. Draw cycle was different and the Q2 had no valley. With that sucker if you creeped just a tiny bit it would try to launch on you. I almost bought the Tribute last year but the drenalin won out due to weight. Unlike some I like a very light bow. Sorry for the long post. It's the 4H Archery Coach in me.

Thank You epox!
It seems that when I'm bow hunting I always have my bow in my hand, so weight is important to me.

Whats your budget?

A lot of the new models are out now and some people have to have the latest and greatest. You may actualy get a good deal on a year or two old setup on consignment at your local dealer. Keep in mind that usually the warranty only applies to the original owner though. If you have several shops around try them all. Bow shops are like car dealers some are good and some not so good. Basically if they don't want you to try anything, don't buy from them. A "good" dealer will have your interest at heart and help you get the right draw length and set the bow up right for you since he will value you as a returning customer.

Whats your budget?

hopefully around $800. need new arrows and broadheads though. I thought I would strip down the hoyt and use that gear on the new one.

I went from my five year old Mathews MQ1 to a Bowtech (Diamond) Black Ice this past year and thought it shot as smooth as a Mathews XT, smoother than the DXT and it was a heck of alot cheaper.

This year Bowtech looks like they're getting as bad as Mathews about their prices, almost like they're a little bit to proud of their bows.

Anyways, haven't shot one yet and had no intention of looking for anything else for a few years but I'm really liking the feedback on the Bowtech Admiral.

I shoot a bowtech General. But I agree that they are getting high on the Main bow line. So is Mathews, Hoyt, Elite, etc,. Bowtech does have a few cheaper models like the SWAT and the Sniper that are very nice bows. I also like there Diamond and Ross line. They are priced a little cheaper too.

PSE has brought out some nice bows this year. They seemed priced right as well. I think the Bow Madness is worth checking out.

Right now is a good time to find a deal on a 2008 model bow since all the shops are trying to move the 08 stuff to make room for the 09's. You can also get some good deals from Archerytalk.com's calssified page. But you can't shoot those to see what you like best.

The main thing is shoot as many as you can. Get what fits you the best and is in your price range.

Thanks again to all of the input and to any more comments. I will consider ALL of this when I make a purchase. So far I guess I've been leaning towards mathews or bowtech, but I still want to look at martin and pse. I do agree, shooting the bow will say alot.
