Each year I put out a "shed trap" in hopes of gettin the sheds off the big bruiser bucks that visit the baitpile in the off season. 2 years ago i had this one

Last year i had this one

None of them ever produced anything, but a shed was found 50 yards from my trap last year.
its actually the one from the buck in the picture above.

In Texas, they had fences up around their feeders to keep the hogs out, and in 3 days we found quite a few antlers from the year before inside and around the fences.

So, this year, i am putting up a fence of my own... around my corn pile. Hopefully it will produce a shed, i have 13 bucks that i have pictures of still living. So maybe.

low enough for them to jump? or?

neat idea though.

low enough for them to jump.

oh and today im gonna stretch wire across sections of deer trails, and then pour corn where they all intersect, so the bucks will bump antlers on the wire as they come to feed.

I know its not time to shed hunt yet but im just getting everything done now because ill be so busy when the time comes.

Can never start too soon Travis...well, I suppose you can.
BUT Mn_Whitetail and I found a shed on Christmas day last year. And by Early January we saw a few more bucks drop their antlers.

I got the fence put up today.

I threw a bit of corn in it as well, but will dump a bag in it on monday.

They should start dropping in 4 weeks or so. A few, like my velvet buck, may drop in a week or have already dropped :)

that velvet antler would be such a find!!!
good luck

The deer would not jump the fence, so i took it down and made something different and put it in a new area.

i hammered 3 fence posts at a hard angle in a line and ran the wire fencing across them. put the corn under the posts and fencing so they have to hit their antlers in the fencing to get the corn.'

tracks everywhere around the trap from where i had corn there last week.

We'll see how this goes.

i've had good luck with tieing twine (the brown stuff) off the bottom of the feeder,, you take an 8 ft section and tie 10-12 inch loops into it and let it hang down,, it catches their horns and they swing their heads to get it off and the sheds drop right there
MN_Whitetail
The reason why you found sheds inside the fences in Texas is because the deer jumped to get in. The momentum from landing on the ground is what wiggled there loose antlers off. I would just build a fence for them to jump over and feed in the middle like you saw in Texas. That'll make them jump it to get to the corn causing the antlers to drop if they are loose.

Yeah MN, i made it already back in december, and they would NOT jump the fence. I took it down since then and made something different.

If you left it up longer they probably would use it.

Maybe, but the deer activity almost stopped in the area for the 4 weeks i had it there... I took it out and they came back.
