have not bowhunted in 5 years and with all the rifle hunters around here iam really missing archery! i have always shot fingers but i am thinking about switching to a release.how difficult is it going from fingers to a release?

Do the switch. When I did the change I found it awkward at first but I now have tighter groups with the release. I did not shoot with fingers for very long maybe two years.

My buddy hounded me for years to switch. When I finally did I coulldn't believe the difference. Wish I would have done that when he first started on me. I chose the Scott Archery caliper-Grip. I love it!!!

I've switched back and forth over the years, It's pretty easy to get used to a release, and the groups get tighter! The only disadvantages of going to the release at least for me was it would be another thing I could forget to bring with and it takes a little longer to prepare for the shot and lastly the bow has to be readjusted for the draw length...not a problem unless you have a small adjustment window. I had to switch cams on my Mathews. But I think it's worth it. Good luck!

Assuming you are shooting a compound bow the switch should be a step forward for you.
One thing that you may find is your anchor point will need to be LOWER.
Most finger shooters anchor high as to look down the arrow.
If your already shooting with a peep sight and pins this may not apply.
good luck

I switched years ago and went to the same release that KyMullet posted a picture of because it was as close to using fingers as you can get with a release (IMO).
After having surgery on my hand I wasn't able to use that release any longer and now use the Little Bitty Goose.

I don't see how anyone can stay with fingers with todays short axle to axle bows.

Red Ruff I know also made the change last year and I think he's glad he did.

COME ON OVER TO THE DARK SIDE! coolsmiley.gif
Yep, that's right! Sil turned me on the little bitty goose release. Small, corded so it will not get in the way. Nice.
I honestly would not shoot short ATA compounds without a release. It's like a 4cyl in a Vette.
I was fingers on a Reflex Caribou which is 40 some inches axle to axle.
I believe that is the only bow in that range, If your gonna go new speed bow they are all going to be in the 30 inch range...they pinch your fingers and mess up a release!

You can be SOOO much more consistent out to 40 yards(my range) with a release.
And actually I can probably group better at 40 as I did at 20 with fingers. So just by going with a release I feel MUCH more confident at double the range.
You just can't get the groups with fingers as you can a release.

Now how much did it take to get use to. You get use to it in an afternoon. You get really use to it after a week, you will never go back after about a month.
If your getting a new bow, you owe yourself a release to get the best out of it.

Go with the release. I shoot a Carter Quickie and love it.
