Friday evening, after arriving to my parents house, my Dad and I reviewed some trail cam pictures and I knew exactly where I wanted to sit the following morning. My Dad and I arrived at our family farm shortly before 6:30 this morning before getting dressed and hitting the stands. The first action for the day started shortly after daybreak when a young gobbler sounded off from the roost merely 100 yards to my south west. For a second I had a flashback to spring, wondering why I was sitting in a tree-stand. The thoughts of spring quickly diminished as I caught a glimpse of what I was hunting for just over 75 yards away through the brush. I quickly grabbed my Reezen, stood up in my stand, and waited. I knew the deer had to poke out of the brush sooner or later, and when she did, I would be ready for her. After about ten minutes of not seeing her again, I sat back down to wait for my next opportunity. It wasn't 20 minutes later, and I see a doe making her way towards me about 50 yards down the strip of winter wheat. It was a picture perfect scene, something you would see in a magazine, as the radiant sunlight emerged through the brush and lit up her brown coat. Shortly after, a second doe came visible and was making her way my direction as well. I came to full draw and waited for the lead doe to make it to a bend in the food plot. When she hit the corner, she turned broadside a mere 23 yards away. I settled the pin on her before dropping the string, and my 550 grain GT Big Game shaft tipped with a 125 grain Aftershock Xbow Xpr zipped right through her. I could tell it was a good shoot, and she trotted off slowly not knowing what just happened. She made it out of sight after 20 yards as I turned my attention to the bright green Firenock glowing in the grass where she once stood.
Shortly thereafter, I texted my Dad telling him I shot a doe, and he sends me one back saying "Just hit a big one". I called him shortly after before heading to the truck to meet up with him where we quickly traded our morning stories, and headed towards my stand to track my doe. We found my doe after a little tracking and headed back to where my Dad was hunting to go trail his buck. The Aftershock Hypershock 100 grain head he was shooting made short work of the buck, as he was only 35-40 yards from the stand my Dad was sitting in.
Now, for some pics
Exit wound...2" cut 125 grain Aftershock Xbow Xpr
A pic of my Dad's buck. It was his biggest buck so far with archery equipment, and he has been bow hunting for a while now :thumbup A big ole' 8 point with a 21" inside spread! We didn't weigh him, but he had to weigh close to 200# field dressed!
