I already have two Mossberg 500A 12 ga. shotguns, but I also have an 870 Wingmaster in 20 ga. I considered selling the 20 to buy an HD 12 ga., but my wife keeps talking me out of it.
Besides just "having it", what real use is it when I already have two Mossbergs that I can use to hunt deer, birds, zombies, etc.?

As far as I'm concerned, the only advantage is there's less kick and a little less noise. That being said, I don't think a 12 gauge is miles ahead of a 20 by any means. Biggest benefit of 12 guage for me is availability of shells.
With regard to your specific guns, if I was choosing between a Mossberg 12 and a Wingmaster 20, all other things being equal, I'd go with the Wingmaster. You CAN NOT go wrong with a Wingmaster!

Your wife is smart, listen to her.
Keep the 20 ga. and go out and buy the HD 12 ga.!
You can never have to many guns and you can always sell the 20 if in the future. Don't sacrifice one gun to buy another, thats just bad karma.

If my wife is smart, it's not because she knows guns. She knows I paid $25 for it and there is no need to sell it since I have hardly anything tied up in it.
You do make a good point, though. If I kept every gun I had ever bought, I would have quite an arsenal.

I have 2 Remington 12 ga. 1187's and just bought an 1100 lightweight 20ga for bird hunting only. Its very light compared to my 12's which is the main reason for the purchase. I do quite a bit of phaesant hunting in the winter and walking around all day with a heavy gun compared to a light gun makes a world of difference. Plus it keeps the loads a little smaller..no need for overkill but sometime ill admit it is nice to have that golden bb to reach out a little further. Ive hunted with 12's my whole life until now but i went dove hunting back in september with my new 20 and im happy i bought it.
I agree with SIcam, keep the 20 and buy a 12

Buy a 12 and let your wife shoot the 20
