I decided to go to a different spot on the property about 2 miles away that I had not scouted. I found some decent sign and decided to hang in there and call. I called on and off for almost 3 hours and as luck would have it I finally heard a bull grunt. The wind wasn't perfect and he was trying to get downwind but couldn't resist the cow... He came into about 60 yards and hung up. He was lifting his head winding me and only offered me a head on shot. I had to decide if I was going to pass on him and try for a bigger one or take him. I decided to take him with the muzzleloader and be thankful for the opportunity and harvest my first moose. I have been down the road of passing and waiting for a bigger one before..lol I took the shot and after the smoke cleared I started looking for sign of a good hit. I had a hard time finding blood at first but after following his tracks for about 30 yards it showed up good.. He only went about 70 yards....
I was alone for the hunt but the property owner helped me get the moose out with his polaris ranger.. Gutting a moose is a big job alone......
Great experience..... great ending... next one with the longbow.....
