Since this is in the Maine forum I guess we are talking Maine hunting ?

First thing when you want to hunt Maine , I do not care what anyone tells you is to learn how to read a compass . So important , I can not say it enough .

Fews things on hunting

Know your gun and have all the faith in it you can .

Always be as sent free as you can .

If you can , hunt with the wind in your face .

Stay still more than you move . Maybe take 10 small steps and wait for 5 minutes looking every where . Do not be afraid of the woods . I would say 80% of the hunters in Maine are afraid of getting lost and do not venture far enough in the woods . Yes you can shoot a big buck in Maine from a dirt road . To up your chances get back there where they are and where they feel safe .

See the ground with your feet . Try not to look down as you walk . Feel the sticks under your feet before you put all your weight down . That way you are looking for deer and not where you are walking .

When you stop , try to stop near a tree or something that will hide you . A tree works great and will give you something to lean against when you shoot .

Thats just a couple things and I am sure more members will add to it .

Scouting for deer . This should be done all year long if you can . Number one scouting tool is a trail / deer camera . Nothing is better and will show you the deer and what time he came through .

Shed hunting is another great scouting tool . If you find sheds this will tell you that the deer are in the area in late season .

Of course look for droppings and old rubs .

These are just a couple things I could think of . I am sure I will think of more and add to it .
