old thread but I had to comment.
First off, cool looking gun you got there papabob. congrats on the collectors edition.
My brothers got me a new Encore 209x50 as a wedding gift two years ago at christmas. All I asked them for was an Encore rifle in a deer caliber. The encore was in short supply at the time and they looked for a long time before they found this one. (In fact, that extra Christmas present was almost 1 1/2 years after the wedding.) It's stainless with a brown laminated stock. Sharp looking rifle. This will sound sacriligious, but I didn't get a chance to sight it in last year before season so I didn't get to hunt with it.

Not the case this year. I'm going to the range this week to finish sighting it in. I love hunting with muzzleloaders, and this rifle is a treat.
I've always shied away from stainless rifles. I always thought they would be too shiny. But the matte finish on the encore is probably duller than many of the blued barrels that I have seen. I've never been a fan of synthetic stocks either. So seeing this one with the laminated wood was a treat. You can't go wrong with solid walnut, and those are some beautiful stocks you made Rick. But it always brings a tear to my eye when a stock like that gets that first big scratch. Even though this laminated stock looks nice, I don't think it will bother me when it gets a few character marks.
Good luck to all you smokepoler's this year.
