The Remington 7600 has killed about a zillion deer in the 30.06. Popular gun around northen MN. Stay away from the semi-auto's (7400). If you want a Remington take a look at their bolt, the 700. An excellent rifle, best rifle Remingtin offers in my opinion. I personaly shoot a Winchester pre-64 bolt action but I have lots of buddies using the Rem. pump in 30.06. A few special edition model 6 pumps, they have the 30.06 cartridge embeded in the stock. I've never seen nor even heard of them failing.

i've got a much older remington 760 in .270, and it's fantastic. seems alot of folks are shooting these. nice and compact, durable. good choice.

Ive got a 7600 in .270 and it is a deer slayer! I had some trigger work done when I first got it though. It had a pretty stiff pull.

What kind of model 70 you shooting trophy? I have a 270 featherweight and a 220 swift heavy barrel. Love them old Winchesters!!
I have been deer hunting with a BLR in 358 win the last few years though. I love the short handy gun. I have been looking for a Winchester Model 88 for a long time now with no luck.

I've used my Remington 7600 30.06 rifle since 1986, I hunt in cold, snowy Northern Wisconsin, and I hunt in outdoor blinds.

I've never had a mechanical failure/problem with this rifle....just "operator error" a few times.

I plan on using my 7600 for the next 20 years.

I bought it new, about 10 years ago but I was lucky enough to get the pre-64 action with the controlled round feed. They produced them for a while after Winchester took control back, now they are not making them anymore sad.gif It's a .300mag, stainless steel with walnut stock, topped off with a Leupold vx-III in stainless. Light one too, I think 6.5 pounds??? Kicks like a SOB roflmao.gif

+1 for the Rem 700

I have a Sendero Chambered in 300WM. Topped with a Springfield Arms 6x20x50 Scope With an iluminated mil-dot reticle. It will shoot sub MOA with out a problem. Mine isn't a light weight like Trophy's. If I remember correctly, battle ready it weights in at about 12.5#'s.

Can't go wrong with a bolt.

Like trophy said. Stay away from the Semi-auto's (7400), my mom had one of the older Remy auto's it was a jamomatic. We could never get it to shoot correctly.

I have the 7600 with the synthetic stock and Leupold 1.75 - 6 32mm with matte finish. A very sharp looking and great shooting gun.
