Although I am actually from IL, I can pretend to be a Maine Hunter.
I hunted up that way last fall for black bear. Hunted with Allagash Wilderness Camps in St. Francis. I have a second go round booked for this September. Hopefully, I'll be bringing my own bear home this time, and not just my buddy's.

Woody - did you book with that same outfitter again? They do get some nice bears, but I had some issues with them during deer season last fall. I'm sure they treat their clients well, but when it comes to dealing with other hunters - let's just say they are less than ethical.

I cant hear you I have nextel and it does not work up there lol .
Well you know my mother lives in Maine and I do make a trip once or twice a year up there .
No hunting last year but will not miss it this year . I too hunt the Allagash and a few spots in the north ( Houlton , Eagle Lake ) .
Have to say the gash is my fav. Just so pretty . I lost about 3 hours one day hunting in the gash cause I decided to have a snack and sit by the Big Black . The sounds of the water the sun on the ripples stole 3 hours from me . I just sat there thinking about my family and how lucky I was to be an outdoorsmen with an understanding wife .
Yea I hunt Maine !

Big Black holds some really nice bucks, but I avoid that area like the plague now. It's just overrun with hunters these days. It seems to be the favorite spot for Canadians coming in through Estcourt and St. Pamphile. Also lots of hunters from various states flock there, and a few locals still hunt there too. It seems everyone knows about the genetic potential for big antlers in that area, with deer such as the Marquis buck getting lots of attention. It works out well for me though, with that area being such a hunter magnet it puts less pressure on other great spots.
Welcome NE Hunter!

Good luck on drawing that moose tag LJ. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll finally get drawn this year. I want to get that big bull before he dies of old age!

I was born and raised hunting in Maine. Since I now live in Massachusetts, I do my archery hunting here with a crossbow, but my rifle hunt out of my camp in TWP34MD, Deer Lake, Maine.
