Our turkey hunting has been real slow. Hardly any gobbeling (sp). We did get this one going at 7:10am on the 2nd of May. He probably gobbled about 30 times in 20 mineuts. My hunting partner was doing video. While he was about 100 yards out we could not see him but knew he was coming. Closer and closer had to shoot him at about 25 yards on a dead run stight at us. Running full blast. I shot, he flipped and bounced. Up he got ran to my left at about 20 yards. Hunting partner following with camera and yelling "Shoot him again, Shoot him again!" at which time he did a 180 and came back in front of us. I was shooting a turkey choke and Remington Heavy Shot. The pattern at 15 yards Is about 6 inches. Tried to head shoot a running turkey in the head at 15 yards. I missed. Sent another at him at about 35 yards but I knew I was behind him. I then said to my partner " How the (BEEP) did I miss that bird?" Sitting and gaining my composer I heard heavy flapping down in the thick pines the bird had gone into. I was able to collect him. I found I had hit him in the head with 2 pellets and when cleaning one had penetrated to the lungs through the neck.
It was also the first bird in forty years that had leg bands. Here is some pics
