i just got a remington 597 .22. what is the biggest size mm scope i should put on it? what is the average size scope used for 22s?

It really depends on your need. I have a 4-16 Weaver on a CZ-452 that we use for Sihlouette. Works good and I know folks with 8-25 power scopes shooting sihlouettes also.

Just my opinion, I wouldn't use one of the little 3/4 inch scopes they sell for 22's. Get a 1 inch tube. I like Leupolds and Weavers. Dont like the cheap scopes made in China. Like most things you get what you pay for. A good 3-9 variable would be my choice.

I have a Weaver Classic 2-10x38 on a Ruger 10-22 and love it.
