Just buy a 50lb sack of rice bran from your local feed and seed...it is the same thing but a lot cheaper.

I checked the bag awhile back while I was in the local sporting goods store. It is mostly rice bran with trace minerals added. I use plain rice bran but add a handful or two of corn on top. It took a while for the deer to start coming to it but once they realized it was food, they were hooked.
I buy a 100lb sack and put out about 10 to 15 pounds at a time.

how well does this stuff hold up to storage? if i open it now and put out a little bit how long will a bag last without going bad? you probably never have any last that long but i figured i would ask

During hunting season I go through a 100lb sack in a couple of weekends so I haven't really let it sit too long. If the deer do not eat it within a week or so, it will start molding over. You have to keep it stored dry.

sounds a lot easier on the wallet to buy in bulk

My hunting group tried it, We wern't impressed. If you want to try it go with the rice bran. Others may have had better luck.

I've been experimenting for a year now with various deer food products trying to develop my own. I used the buck grub last year and I have to say this is what I found mid Nov. eating it while my cam snapped a shot! The others are right, it's basically stabilized rice bran with calcium carbonate added into it for balance; high in protein and fat. Earlier this year I bought Purina horse stabilized rice bran at a local feed and seed, it's pelleted and I wanted it powdered so I used my food processor and powdered it up fine. It has kept all summer long in the garage withOUT getting any bugs in it, still smells as fresh as when I opened the package.

Buck Grub and rice bran are not the same. Buck Grub is cooked which gives it a nutty aroma which will draw deer. You can mix BG with corn to draw deer to you feeder once they start to eat it you can change over to rice bran at $5.00 per hundred weight. It better to put it in a feeder to keep it dry. See below pic. I am in Arkansas were BG is made at and rice bran is cheap.
