how many of you use ground blinds to bowhunt out of? i've been kicking around the idea of investing in one down the road. just wondering what works for you guys and is easy to setup and tear down?
hoggin03
I have a Ground Max Escape DX blind. It is a hub style, so setup and takedown are extremely fast. I can get it set up without making too much noise in less than a minute. I just got it for turkey hunting this spring, so I can't speak to it's effetiveness for deer hunting. I will say that it is great for turkeys.

It has the shoot through mesh for the windows, however I took it out of the front side windows when I was turkey hunting (the turkeys don't seem to mind the black spots). I have read that for deer hunting you definately want the windows in, and it's not a bad idea to brush in the blind, too. I'll probably give it a shot a couple times during deer season to see how it works out.

It is not as nice as a Double Bull, but it is $250 or more cheaper. I may buy a Double Bull sometime in the future, but for now, it does the trick.

Here's a link.

I just set up my hog huntin location last weekend. It's not real easy to take down, but I like it as a "ground blind" roflmao.gif

SORRY! ..smarta$$ is a genetic trait in the family bag.gif

Seriousily though, I had an Ameristep Roundhouse last year. I gave it a few trial runs in the backyard and didn't really care for it. Not all that quick to set up, nor all that ez to get back in the carry case. If I was just gonna set it in one location and let it last as long as it would last and then replace it....then maybe I woulda kept it.

Lugnut if you want the best Double Bull is the wat to go. Quiet and real fast to setup

EDIT*** I just realized that in my post above I had put $150 cheaper, what I meant was $250 cheaper.

I agree with hoggin03 my wife got me one from Gander Moutain for our anniversary and you cant beat it for the money.360 viewing and shoot through windows and easy setup.

Mike has been talking about getting one for awhile so he can hunt in some of those over grown fields.
I know the deer move through them, there are trails all over.
You thinking deer or turkey?

i'm thinkin deer for my daughter and i. my dad has one of the outhouse blinds but trying to tear it down is comical. 2 hours later i think we finally got it figured out; the whole time my wife and mother were laughing there a## off. it's really not big enough for 2 people.

It's really neat how those things work; epecially trying to tear it back down! I kinda compare it to learning to use a diaphragm call....you try and try...don't think you are ever gonna get it...then all the sudden you got it, and it's cool as crap. roflmao.gif

Double bull Matrix 360. Nice a quite and easy to set up and take down. I love the adjustable height windows, no more slouching down to see out. The price is a little steap but it will be the last blind you ever buy. Too bad you weren't closer I'd let you test mine out. I take my daughter out pre-season and it's really nice not having bugs chomping on you all the time your out.

I shot my bow-killed buck this year from a ground blind at a distance of 10 yards.

Needless to say, I LOVE THEM!!

Does anyone run any kind of heater in their blinds?

I hunt in MN and I was thinking why not put a little Mr. Heater in there?
Terrific_tom
Red, My son took my Mr.Heater and used it in his Double Bull Blind this year for gun season on the cold mornings and said he was toasty warm and it didn't bother the deer.
redruff
That's what I wanna hear! Anything in bow range?
Terrific_tom
Buck Fawn 30 to 35 yards never noticed the heater going. Had the heater on low to keep noise down

the hub style has to be easier than this outhouse blind i got. it's such a pain to tear down. i think i've decided that i will buy the camoed burlap form walmart and stretch it between trees and sit behind it. i wish my target buck would hangout where there were sutable trees to climb or put a lockon up. he's a stuborn buck. tongue.gif

I've never hunted out of a purchased blind. I'd like to try one for turkeys some day. With elk, I've found the best blinds are made out of natural materials at the site. I have more success when the blind offers quiet footing and at least two escape routes for moving in and out of the blind. I also like to have a stool or seat that attaches to a tree. The more comfortable I am the less I move. I also like having my profile up against a solid object, like a tree.

As long as the temperature permits long periods of time without moving, I believe a ground blind is the way to go.

The biggest factor for me in setting up a ground blind is the wind. I have to find a place where the wind blows in a constant direction. Swirling wind doesn't work.

my wife bought me a Hunter's View Hunter's Den blind for Christmas from the sportsman guide. since it was a green Christmas here in Maine, I set it up in the front lawn and there is plenty of room for a couple people in there.

can't wait for spring turkey

btw it's a hub setup, pull the roof then the sides. goes up quick, comes down quick.

I got myself one of the Ground Max Deluxe Blinds recently and find it quite good. Just in case anyone was considering one or wanted to know a little more about it I did a review and posted it on youtube if anyone wants a look:
