Finally got my stock in for my encore. I had a curly maple thumbhole stock and forend made for it and it turned out awesome. It took me some time to get it all like I wanted but I finally have it there. Only thing left to do is buy the small rifle primers and sight her in. If nothing else it sure does look pretty!!

Yes, if you could post his email I would appreciate it. Your title here states: SS Encore 50 cal. 25acp and oversized hinge pin
What with the oversized hinge pin. The 25acp is your extra barrel to go along with the rifle foreend?
I have a new Encore that is a limited edition and I purchased the rifle forend so I can pick up the extra barrel down the line. See pics below. Someone here referred to it as plywood a while back and hurt my feelings. LOL LOL I thought it looked pretty good myself.

Seen your gun before and it ias beautiful. The 25acp actually is the breech plug conversion which uses 25 acp brass and a small rifle primer instead of a 209 primer
http://www.bpbullets.com/thompson%20center%20encore.html.The hinge pin is just oversized to get rid of slop in the locking of the barel to the frame.

Okay, I remember now. I have picked up those new primers from Remington to basically do the same thing as the conversion. Keep the Encore barrel from fowling badly due to the "hot" 209 primers.
Here's the link:
Kleanbore PrimersI was going to do the conversion on this one until they came out with these primers. Hope they solve the problem as advertised.
I will look into that oversized hinge-pin. Haven't noticed the slop as you mentioned. But, now that I know about it I probably see it for sure . . . LOL LOL

the nice thing about the 25 acp conversion is there is less blow by, and the 25acp cases are alittle easier to handle than a 209 also.
cheers!

I love my encore and recommend them for anyone looking for a quality muzzleloader.

A little update on my Encore. I used the Winchester 777 clean burning primers. Holy cow I had black blow by so bad that the entire breach plug area was coated in 3-4 shots. The blowby actually came out from around the breach and stained the underside of my scope and the sides of the breach area of the gun. Couldn't get the primer out after that either. Had to use pliers. Thought there was something not seating correctly. I had changed up the primer enjector for a swing ejector from TC. Checked that all out and everything was seated and secured.
I cleaned everything up and went back to my old Rem 209's and no problem. Can't figure what is going on. Only thing I can think of is the tolerances on the W777's was a little small and this was allowing the gas to escape back into the breach area.
I called TC and they sent out a new breach plug for me and I will be testing it out in the spring after the snow gets out of here. Will let you know what I find.

Great looking stocks on both those Encores.
PaPabob, I have seen blowback problems caused by the firing pin piercing the primer. Notice right in front of the hammer there is an Allen screw. Removing this screw will allow removal of the breech face, firing pin, and spring. This should be removed and cleaned after each shooting session to prevent it gumming up.
I neglected to clean this area for several months. My firing pin got stuck with the tip sticking thru the breechface. When I opened the gun the barrel snipped off the tip of the firing pin. The new flattened, jagged firing pin tip would pierce the primers, making the blowback much worse. I had to get a new firing pin.
Just something to watch out for. Rick

Thanks Rick, I will check that out. Because this gun is new I didn't have anything to compare it to. It immediately started the blowback using the 777 cleanbore primers. So, I obviously wanted to blame them. When I went to the 209 regular primers the blowback seemed to be greatly reduced. Lot to be figured out before next season.
