Been wantin a new rifle for the last few years. Everytime I get around to buyin one something comes up and the money is gone before I know it. I've been thinkin about gettin a 25-06.
Now where I usally hunt is in the woods over lookin a ag field. Then I have the woods beside, and behind me. My shots I'm comfortable takin is anywhere from 10 to 200 yards. Would the 25 be a good rifle, or would yall suggest another?
While I have yalls attention. What would be a good scope to place on this rifle? Been thinking of a Nikon (buckmaster) 3x9x40.
Thanks for any help!

I have had a few 25-06's over the years and it is one of the best long range deer calibers. Super flat trajectory and with a little practice I wouldn't hesitate to take 250+ yard shots.
I have never used a Nikon scope but have had a bunch of Leupolds. I just got a 3X9 rifleman for my son and so far it seems like a real nice scope and cheaper than the other Leupold scopes. Same lifetime warrenty!

The 25-06 is one of my favorite rounds! and with a nosler partition it is a killer! I also have a Nikon monarch on a 22-250 and it's my second monarch and Im hooked! I would say spend a little more and go with a 44MM obj.

I say good caliber. It's basically the same as my 25WSSM that I love so much. As for a scope, I like the Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x50.
I had a Weaver Classic 2-10x50 that was a good scope but had seen a review on the GS and wanted to try it. I called Weaver and told them my story. They sent me a GS and charged me the difference of the two - allowing full retail for my old one. Not too many companies would do that these days. I have since bought two more of them and love them.

Don't think that you would go wrong with a 25 06. Flat shooting and mild recoil, very accurate. There are a lot of good scopes out there. Depends on what you want, but one of the best that I have seen lately for the money is the Pentax Gameseeker, very good light transmission and lifetime warranty.

Nice caliber, I had one several years back and I've been on the look out for a replacement for quite a while.
Save up a few more pennies though and get a little better scope. You don't need a 1000.00 scope, but there's quite a bit of difference between a 100.00 scope and a 200.00 one.
Lots and lots of choices...
Nikon Monarch is pretty decent and is around that 200.00 range for a nice used one on ebay
Bushnell Elite 3200 is very good for it's price and the 4200 gets praised quite often for what you get compared to scopes costing twice as much.
Majority of my rifles wear Leupolds VX-II's and VX-III's. And one of my favorite scopes is my VX-III 3.5-10. Prefer it over either of the 4.5-14's I have.

Went to a pawn shop in May and was just looking and found a Savage 25.06 with a Buckmaster 6X18X50 scope for $240. I have used it this season and killed 3 deer with it(two ran 25 yards, the other dropped in its tracks) while using a 100 GR. Remington CORE-LOKT. I don't think I will ever hunt with any more of my rifles. So yes get one, and I hunt all over East Texas.
