I have hunted religiously and have not seen but 3 or 4 does from the stand and had no shot opportunities what so ever. What can I do to increase my sightings? Having a rough time because I have not taken anything yet.

Get down and find the food source in your area. You obviously are not hunting over the source or between the source and the bedding area. Do not continue to sit there but get down and look for recent sign. Look for evidence of feeding activity. Cornfields, green fields, white oaks, etc. Find out where they are satisfying one of the three things that they do. Eat, have sex, and maintain security. If you can find their feeding area and position yourself back towards what you think is their bedding area a bit you will intercept them.

Look for active rubs and scrapes. The bucks are up and moving right now and leaving their calling cards.

Also, almost forgot. Get the game camera out there in the areas that you are suspicious of.

Good luck.

HoytHunter,

I cut my bowhunting teeth on the Bitterroot River back in the late 70's and early 80's. It was a very humbling experience during those early years. Most of my initial hunting was stalking and still hunting and I wasn't very successful? Why? Because I wasn't paying attention to the wind every second. Then a friend convinced me to hang eight inches of dental floss of the front limb of my bow. He said, "Never walk with the wind...never!" I realized right away I had been bumbling around and spooking a lot more game than I ever saw. I began to learn the wind currents and how they changed throughout the day, with stormy and sunny weather, fall through winter, etc. Soon I was seeing at least 35 deer every time I went down there.

I continue to use not one, but two lengths of dental floss, for both ends of my recurve or longbow. I see a lot more game than most other bowhunters I meet in Colorado. It's so simple but I see many guys bumbling around the woods, complaining of the lack of animals and having no clue about the wind. I just agree with them, "Yeah, haven't seen anything for days!"

This may or may not be your situation. I don't know. The best book on the subject is "Stalking and Still Hunting" by Fred Asbell.

I hope this is helpful.
